A DevFoundry product · Crucible 0.3.1

Build, test, and version your API work.

Start locally, keep API work beside your code with Git, or move into managed Cloud workspaces when they become available. Local and Git ship today; Cloud remains Planned.

Providers

Three equal workspace providers

No provider is the “real” one. Choose Local or Git now; Cloud follows as a peer when ready.

Local

Available

Fast, private workspaces stored on this Mac. No Git or account required.

Git

Available

Human-readable, versioned API workspaces in a standalone repo or under `.crucible/workspace/` in an application repository.

Cloud

Planned

Managed collaboration, permissions, and versions — Planned. Not available in this release.

Git-native workflow

API work that reviews like code

Crucible uses your system Git and established credential helpers or SSH agent. Offline local Git work is supported. Nothing commits or pushes unless you ask.

  • Create, open, or clone a Crucible Git workspace
  • Root repository layout or embedded .crucible/workspace/
  • Edit and Save deterministic JSON workspace files
  • Inspect status and unified diff; stage, unstage, and commit
  • Branches, remotes, fetch, fast-forward-only pull, push, ahead/behind
  • Publish a Local workspace as Git — Local source stays unchanged
  • No automatic commit, push, force push, merge, rebase, or stash

Import

Bring existing API work into Crucible

Imports convert into a Crucible workspace. Unsupported features are reported rather than silently discarded. Imported scripts, hooks, and plugins are not executed.

Insomnia

v3 / v4 / v5 · JSON or YAML

Postman

v2.0 / v2.1 · JSON

OpenAPI / Swagger

OpenAPI 3.0 / 3.1 · Swagger 2.0

Bruno

bruno.json + .bru

cURL

Single or multiple commands

Crucible Workspace

.crucible.native.workspace

Desktop

Inside the desktop app

Native menus, command palette, Quick Request, environments, assertions, TLS settings, Git status and history, and the Import into Crucible wizard.

Crucible Workspace Home with Quick Request and recent activity
Workspace Home Quick Request, recent work, and import — without hunting empty panels.
Crucible request editor with method, URL, and headers
Request editor Method, URL, headers, body, and auth in a focused native editor.
Crucible response viewer showing status and body
Response viewer Status, timing, headers, and body for long debugging sessions.

CLI and CI

Automate without a Cloud account

Use crucible validate, Git workspace commands, and machine-readable JSON in CI. Local and Git workflows never require Crucible Cloud.

Only capabilities that exist in the notarized desktop build.

  • REST client — method, URL, headers, body, auth, response inspection
  • Git status, unified diff, stage/unstage, commit, local history
  • Branches, remotes, fetch, fast-forward-only pull, push, ahead/behind
  • Publish Local as Git (Local source unchanged)
  • Native macOS menus and command palette
  • Import wizard: Insomnia, Postman, OpenAPI/Swagger, Bruno, cURL, Crucible portable ZIP

  • Signed and notarized macOS Apple Silicon desktop

Ownership

Your files stay yours

Local stays on this Mac. Git stays in the repository you choose. Secret references are protected. There is no automatic push. Cloud is optional and Planned.

Roadmap

Still Planned

Honest view of what’s next. Local and Git workspaces ship in the current release. Cloud remains Planned. Nothing below is available unless marked otherwise.

Cloud provider

Planned

A managed, authenticated, collaborative workspace provider — an equal peer of Local and Git, not a sync layer. Architecture and ADRs are drafted; implementation follows its own approval gate.

Update system

Planned

In-app updates once publishing and channel tooling are established.

Windows

Planned

Native packaging and Gatekeeper-equivalent distribution for Windows.

Linux

Planned

Native packaging for Linux distributions after the macOS release path is solid.
